Being in debt is not fun. My husband and I were a little bit in debt when we met, but after having kids it pretty much doubled. Some family members will call us and ask for money and they don’t understand that we may be struggling worse than they are. Once I plugged in our debt and saw how much interest we were paying. I think it was really a wake up call for both of us. If we are going to get out of debt we need to make it a priority and sacrifice the things that we simply don’t need. So after we realized we needed to make a serious change the next step was coming up with a plan. We didn’t want to sign up for a get out debt service, take out a bank loan or file for bankruptcy. We wanted to try to do it all on our own first. We are giving ourselves one year to work towards our goal. I know we won’t reach it in a year, but if we can cut our debt in half that would be awesome!
I have looked into a lot of ways to get out of debt and then I discovered Undebt.it and I fell in love. You plug in all your information and you choose a plan. Debt relief services is also another way we are considering getting out of debt faster if we don’t show any progress after a year.
Once you decide what plan is best for the order of paying off your debt Undebt.it does the rest of the planning for you. They tell you what to pay first, how much to pay and when you will be out of debt. My husband asked I not share the total with you all because he thinks it should be private which I understand, but I can share our percentages on a monthly basis of how we are working towards our goal. I signed up recently and this is our percentage.
Debt Free Estimate: June 2021 (I will update this as we go. It may go down as we pay off more than they ask, etc.)
My goal for next year is to make a decent income from blogging for the first time since I started in 2012. I was so focused on product reviews, etc when I first started blogging and since my blog has grown so much I have been getting so many opportunities to earn an income from writing. I plan to use 100% of my blogging earnings to go towards paying off our debt. My goal for next year I think will be to make 10,000.00 blogging. I haven’t made even 1,000.00 this year, but I am going to try really hard to make a decent amount in 2018!
There are lots of reasons why we want to get out of debt. One is that we would love to send our kids to college someday if they choose to go. Secondly, we would love to own our own home someday. I actually dropped out of college because my Dad struggled to pay for my books, etc. My husband and I didn’t have good role models to teach us the right ways of money growing up, but we can change all that now and make sure our kids don’t follow the same path.
